Racial Undertones & Humor (All in Fun Right?)
Jokes You Wouldn't Tell In Front of Your Mom (Or Your Sister)

You guys following the discussions on BOC? Wow, what a mess. Just wondering what your thoughts are on what (if anything) these sort of sub-forums add to a forum / group?

I know you read my post on BOC and I truly believe that we should stay away from non-boating stuff. I am not as tolerant as some for that kind of stuff. Even the Lazo thread is a bit over the top. My "qualifier" for posting, if you want to call it that, is if it would embarrass a child or our admirals, it is not good...

Once in a while on OUR "holding tank", I find it OK to rant a bit about a really crazy news worthy item... political or whatever and that is fine. Since we all for the most part know each other by sight, we tend to keep our comments really civil...

I dislike some of the political views held by some of our IBoatNW clan but I hold that till I get to see and talk with them on the docks or by personal email... again, if mommy don't like it... it doesn't go to the world to read...

Add the fact that even though I dislike our current President, I will continue to call him by acceptable names and not deragatory ones like...

(gotcha, ya thought I was about to huh)...

Yeah... it's a shame really. BOC has definitely lost it's course. They're trying to make it a "one stop shop" for everything and lost the real thing it had going for it. It used to be family oriented boating. Even the Bayliner part of it added to that. We were all in the same boat when it came to owning the same brand. It's nice that Sea Ray is a sister-brand and that's OK, but some of the fast boat threads have gotten out of hard and there's really no need for all the political, sexual and racial stuff on there.

I was just kidding about the new forums here btw. :)

I'm always open to a joke or even some good natured review of current events, but things on the PP section have gone to an extreme. While I am not ready to write off BOC and have generally avoided the PP section, I do periodically visit to see how it has progressed only to confirm again that the exchanges serve no purpose. It appears that BOC has attracted some new members with absolutely no interest in boating and only joined to stir up the PP section. At this point I believe everyone will be better served if they take that goal elsewhere and locate another site better suited to their true interests where they can continue the bickering and banter without the distraction of those of us who just joined to talk about boats.

I mentioned the PP @ BOC was a bad idea when they opened it, but they basically said "just don't go there". I said, OK, but when you search "new post 24 hours" you get 75-80% PP stuff.

Club searay has a couple of political threads sprinkled in,but I don't mind it because it doesn't dominate like it has on BOC, so it's still easy to navigate. I come here for the down home stuff, but like the higher traffic of BOC and CSR. Sad to see some have lost sight of the point of the forum.

Find it hard to bite my tougue sometimes on BOC, although I too like the traffic and snooparound when bored.
Lately tho I have just been going straight to the motoryacht section. Pretty clean there.............

I don't think it is necessary to change or add new forums to the IBNW website. I think the primary focus has been and should always concern boating issues and activities. Derogatory comments and name calling don't add value to a website. If we want to poke fun at a politician, sports celebrity, or discuss a contraversial issue we already have the form to do so.

Now that a decision has been made about BOC's PP, I find it interesting that those who voted to close it are pretty quiet. They're accepting of Robert's decision and moving on. However....had Robert decided to close it...jeez the servers would have been lit up with lot o' firepower from all those wanting to keep it open.

It was also interesting that even with more people voting to close it, that it stayed open. And no one has really complained about that counter action. I would have really liked to see the nastiness had the voting resulted to keep it open and Robert decided to close it. Probably would have had some of them calling their civil rights lawyers....

Thats why I am here, this appears to be what I was looking for in BOC. I couldnt look the other way, it's not how I am wired. Just not having it in your face was reason enough to leave.

I like off color jokes. I like R rated pictures. I like Lazlos thread. I have looked at the PP section maybe twice, so I vote with my mouse...I don't go there. I like BOC and the folks that are on there. If I don't like something or someone I ignore them. I like BOC and I like Rob.

I also like IBNW and the folks that are on here. If you don't want to put any of those sections on here that is fine with me. It's Mike's site and I appreciate the hard work and stewardship that goes into it.

I'm not stressing about any of it.

Yeah late in the summer they get in about 25-30 miles, the most fun a person will have fishing. Multiple hook-ups, non stop action when you are on them. Work a fish all the way to the boat and they will take one look at you and run again. Too much fun.

That's most of the reason I've only been reading the 'front page' of the new posts. And only the stuff that's interesting to me, which is not the brawling!

Hopefully the Dirty Seven words didnt offend you or anyone else too much, that is/was not my intent. it was in reply to aprevious post.

I bring this up as to point out, do we censor or not censor any or all of the potential "Bad Words" that may offend readers.

Some of these words are and can be automatically CENSORED by this bulletin board software.

There are obvious holes in the list of words as I was pointing out, that now can be fixed or be left as is.

I think he's talking about the "Club Leadership" rank you were showing. I had tried (unsuccessfully) some time ago to add Marine Corps ranks in the system (like the Navy ones) and when you went over a certain amount it auto-bumped you intio a user group that I was setting up for Club Leadership.

It's an assigned "title" not something you can tag yourself with.

The whole censorship business isn't a bit deal. It has it's defaults and I can add words to it. ********** should be blocked now. :D

I wish they had ranks structures that would allow different branches. I'll have to play with that.
