Side note...

The admiral and I have a newer home (3 years old). We have a great, gas furnace... We just want to add an A/C unit at the house...

I've talked to 3 companies -- all want to do a different size unit, different specs, and all want me to upgrade this or that.

They're pretty proud of themselves for the pricing from what I can tell. And they all liked to make snide, rude comments about each other.

I anyone on here a resential HVAC person (or know someone close to them who is?)

I really just need some good, honest information -- and if they want a job, I'm an easy one (all the folks I talked to said I was brain dead simple). The electrical part is taken care of.

We had three companies bid our house a few years back and had a similar experience. If it wasn't snide comments about the competition, it was a little too much interest in some of the toys/electronics around the house and in the garage. The cheapest guy said he was putting in an undersized unit on a "substantial deal", but it would have to run full blast, all the time... aah, we'll pass thanks.

I used to have great service from Baron Heating up in Bellingham back when I was a general contractor (long ago) but I don't have a clue how they operate now. I don't know where you are, but the last characters I used for some service I can tell you to avoid like the plague... I just can't recall their name sitting at my desk. Their company placard is affixed on our furnace to remember who not to call - Arlington/Marysville area - Shoddy workmanship, hidden charges, replacement parts price gouging, the works.

Good luck!

Had my furnace put in by Mountain Valley out of Maple Valley - Eric was the guy and straight shooter on what sounded like good ideas from my researching HVAC replacement systems. My budget was blown for Heat Pump and AC but I did have the furnace installed so adding at later date would be easier (cost extra $200 but claimed it would save ~500 later if I did it).

I got them as a recommendation from friend that had Heat Pump/AC system put in his house. Friend was happy enough he called them back out there to install unit heater in his shop.

City Energy Systems out of Auburn 1-800-365-2489. Talk to Tom Cunningham. They have been doing my HVAC work for years and I have been pleased with what I get for what I pay.
