Hello everyone. I am a newbie here and have just started what I hope is not a lifetime project. It ia a 1975 2250 Skagit. I am trying to find out what model this is. Offshore, cuddy and I think there was 1 more that I don't remember. Are there pictures available that you know of? My web surf didn't find any. It weighs about 3500lbs and has a cabin with cuddy. the boat seems to fairly solid so far. Am I crazy.

Well it all depends on what you paid for it, if it was free it is still a costly uphill battle some times. If you know it is a 2250 Skagit I'm wondering what more you need to know?

Welcome aboard. Many on this board are very knowledgeable regarding repairs and upgrades. As stated numerous times, we'll help you spend your money. Just remember that money spend on a boat is expressed as Boat Unit or Boat Buck. One Boat Unit=$1,000. It sounds much better when you tell the Admiral you only spend one-half of a boat buck for a couple new manifolds and risers.

Welcome Paulie. Of course the condition of the boat going in matters but that being said, you are getting ready to embark on the most expensive adventure of your life. I'm not trying to scare you and although I can go into detail it probably wouldn't do any good. Have fun, be safe, good luck!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I don't scare very easily, I just finished a 7 year reno on the money pit and needed a new project, (somthing for me). When you guys mentioned expensive, what are we talking to overhaul a boat like the one i have? 5K,10K? That may be a hard question to answer but I tend to go a bit overboard when I take somthing apart to fix it.

With that statement plan on at least $10K but seeing pic's would help.

The funny things is... if you're OK with the money outflow, you can easily restore a sound fiberglass boat for much less than you could buy new of the same size and capability. Go price a new 22 footer and you'll soon see you can re-fit an old one much cheaper. Of course you've still got an old boat when you're done, but a sharp restore on the right boat can look really nice. Plus you could have creature comforts that boat never saw new.
Shoot us some pics.

Good lookin old gal. How does it run? Ever think about finding a Merc 350 / Alpha Gen II drive combo somewhere and maybe just updating all at one time? Might be a cheap repower. (Cheap in boat dollars)

She is nowhere near running. When I picked her up on Vancouver Island a couple weeks ago, a pickup box full of engine blocks 1 running 350 GM and numerous spare parts was part of the deal. I am still sorting through the shrapnel. Since I took the pictures I have pretty much gutted and discarded the interior. I'll get the hardware, wiring and controls off this week. Should have the windows out and the cabin off shortly after that. My goal is to have the hull work done and painted by October. I'll spend the winter building the interior and overhauling the engine and leg. Any opinions on a Volvo 280 leg?Maybe a bit ambitious but our winters are long and cold, and a project is a good way to spend the winter.

The Volvo Penta 280 is one of the best drives ever made. Lots of used parts out there. If you are going to replace the leg I can tell you one of the best things I've done so far is put a duo prop leg on. It's like the difference between driving a 60's VW beetle and a Cadillac. The beetle will get you there but the Cadillac is so much nicer.
The Duo Prop leg can usually be found for 2 or 2.5 boat bucks.
