Did any of you get a chance to visit Commencement Bay and the Foss water way for the event?
We seen some of the smaller vessels on the way home from Poulsbo then picked up our two daughters and there boyfriends and went for a cruise over to the water way and saw the 2 larger vessels from Russia and Meixco . I would have really like to have seen those ships under sail.
I was impressed at the size of them.

You don't want to be anywhere near the Deception Pass Bridge when they sail though. As impressive as they may be... they'll wreck your commute. People actually GOT OUT of their cars... ON THE HIGHWAY... and left them there. Traffic was snarled for better than two hours last year when I got caught in it. :(
They are impressive though.

I got to see one of them (with a dark green hull) when I was coming back from Point Hudson, and yes it would have been nice to see the rags up. But it was even better that the water was totally flat that day on the way home. Ted :D

The two I saw had these really odd sails. Really dark and grubby. I guess I was spoiled by all the Errol Flynn movies. :)

The two I am talking about must have been around 600 feet long, looked like white sails, the square type. But they were not under sail. Darn it.

I'm sitting here in my office, and looking out on English Bay. One of the ships' masts are towering above the trees...I've never seen anything like it!
Here's a webcam about 1/4 mile from here:

Go to KatKam.ca to see them coming in and tying up. Scroll down to the archives to go back in time.

I saw the Pallada in Kodiak AK. when Gorbachev was first loosening the restrictions with "glasnost" and " Perestroika" (openness) policy. We met the Crew and I offered to buy them some vodka (Duh!) at the Ships Bar. They laughed and said they wanted "The Budvisor". I was there building some Coast guard housing. I showed them my Paslode Impulse nailgun with its combustible mixture and peizo spark mechanism. They said nails were rationed in Russia. They told me very quietly because they believed the KGB were listening. No ****h! The Pallada went on to Seattle where one of the sailors defected-he was a defect- and went to work for a contractor I know. His new American girlfriend talked him into jumping ship. Incredible ship used for training purposes. I have a bunch of memorabilia they gave me with the boat emblazoned on it. 8)

My wife worked the tall ship event and has some great photos from the dock and on a security cruse.

OK... ya gotta share :)
Throw some in the Gallery and show us the upclose on these old boats. Our Chiefs Mess hosted the restoration commitee for the USS Constellation, aboard our ship, USS Constellation (CV-64) in 1993. What a dedicated bunch it takes to complete one of these restorations. Great guys that were all smiles and grins when talking about the old gal. Amazing old ships for sure.

No worries. When Bob or I optimize the Gallery, It resizes everything down to 640X480.
What a beautiful boat she is.
Another thing... Might try using the "IMG" button versus the "URL" button.
It'll show the image in your post rather than a link to it. Sounds like you've mastered it though... show us more :)

We did the Sea Vancouver cruise on Saturday. In case you don't visit BOC, here are some pics of the tall ships in English Bay.

Looks like someone picked the right day to be out on the water, I hear the cannons are pretty loud. Very good pics, thanks for sharing.
