In Delaware on Wednesday a guy caught a 873 pound Blue fin Tuna. He had 80 lb test. The fish was 9'7" long and 80 inches in diameter. WOW! That's going to take one BIG jar of mayonnaise!

Wonder how old was that fish?

I read a short story about Hemingway fishing for Bluefins out of Maine or one of the other northeast states. Absolutely incredible the fight those huge fish put up.

Biggest I've ever caught was a 205lbs yellow fin (I think the record at the time was only 307lbs) aprox 150 miles off Mexico.

The fish completely ran the whole spoon of line off. Called out to the mate. He hooked a new pole on to the eye hook (at the bottom of the handle) of the first pole, handed me the new one, and through the old over the side.

Fish took about half the next reel before I could start cranking it back in- about 3 1/2 hour total to land it! I had to hand it off to my dad a few times, my arms were like jelly!

Put the fish down in the freezer, on the way back in (H&H landing San Diego) the Captn. called ahead and we sold the fish for $1100. Won the jack pot onboard, another $1000. Tipped the crew big time and payed for all the drinks that night.

My picture was still up there the last time I checked in 2001.

Very neat Ken, a trip to remember.
Doug my first and only try at the big one was in Kona Hawaii.
i am not really much of a fisherman but always wanted to try it. Glad I did, at least it is one thing I wanted to do for many years and finally did it a few years back.
Think I will stay with the water in Puget Sound for now on. It looked flat from the beach when looking out at the ocean from our rooms but those swells finally made me feel a bit queezy.
