It seems like we have been rudderless on cruises so we need a new cruise captain? I am not volunteering to be THE cruise captain but I will volunteer to be the assistant cruise captain. So how do we get a new nomination going? I think the Commodore and the rest of the officers might be the right ones to head this up and get the ball rolling. With one of the first action's being reservation's for the major holidays made in advance and then the details worked out later. I do not know if the marinas need a guarantee or what it takes but that is where the officers with access to the funds would come in?

PS: How about a sticky at the top of this forum listing who the officers are? and another one with the cruise locations and dates? Also all of the officers need to have a group of crusing club member emails so they can send out notices easily.

I can answer some of those.

We got some really excited involvement last year about wanting to do more cruising as a group. We had lots of conversation about planning cruises, things to do as a group, etc, (even some talk of reciprocals), but in the end people have not kept the same interest. It's tough to plan at any distance in these with so little active participation.

As far as making long range reservations, It's difficult unless someone wants to step up and put it together. Todd wasn't up for the challenge and as much as I do here myself, I'm not available to guess at who is up for what and when. If folks are serious about wanting to cruise as a group, they need to be willing to put in a little bit of effort themselves.

It is really very easy to set up a cruise. Call the marina and make a reservation for 10-15 boats. A majority of marinas have a cancellation policy with no cost. When I set up Bremerton, I pay the $5/boat fee and collect when everyone shows up. Most marinas allow you to give up slips on busy weekends with no loss to you. In fact, a couple of boats (mine included) showed up late and they only asked we pay the days we stayed, not the ones we first signed up for... You can ask fellow boaters to pay up to guarantee their reservations. I have not had a problem getting reimbursed from anyone on this forum... The only tight marina I know of is the Islander Resort on Orcas. They wanted full payment when I canceled one year more than 30 days out... I got it straightened out but they were a hassle...

That is why I volunteered to be the assistant cruise captain. I still believe the officers of the cruise club should head up the replacement of an officer. If one of them quits then the rest need to step up and get it back on track. I have been on two cruises since I joined the cruise club, I liked the relaxed atmosphere and I have meet some good people.

I did not see a problem with people showing up or participating on those cruises? The Club just needs the officers to get a plan together and be ahead of the game. I do not even know who the officers are?

I will also volunteer to start making some calls to reserve space for next year, It will be about three weeks from now but when I get back I can start making calls. Right now Kingston comes to mind for Labor Day next year. Friday Harbor for the Fourth of July, Poulsbo for Memorial day and then maybe a few others thrown in.

I am reserved at Winslow Warf Marina for Labor Day September 4th and 5th. I have never been there but it is clos to the town. They do not have designated guest moorage they put guest in permanet moorage slips. I was the only one on the list when I called them so if some of you are looking for a place to go that weekend you might give them a call. All of the normal places are probably booked up months ago.

I appreciate the offer Paul. Let me think it over and get some thoughts in line.

Hold off on reserving bulk stuff for the next year though. If you'd like to organize a cruise, it would be greatly appreciated and as Doug said, that's how we've always done things in the past.

Do the research, make a few phone calls and then present the idea in a post on here. It seems informal, but honestly it's been the best all around so far. We've made probably 20-30 cruises as a group and they've all been fun.

Speaking of cruising, our son and his family are gone as of 0400 this AM. Anyone going anywhere this weekend? I plan to crab and fish for the first time this year. Been so busy, I have not had the opportunity to fish... that is sad!!!

We're headed down to Portland. Diane has a tri this weekend, but we'll be on the water this week.
