Less than 17 hours total this year!! New engine came out AGAIN this week. The compression readings were all over the place 90-160. The valve cover gaskets were blown again due to the blow-by. Heads came off and the cylinders show excessive wear considering the engine is supposed to be new. And there are either two big scratches or two small crack in one of the cylinder walls. Woo hoo! I am trying to convince my insurance that this is caused by latent defect and make them pay for it. After reading and re-reading my policy, it sure leans towards being covered, but I just want to be done with this whole problem. In 3 weeks it will be a year since this whole debacle started over a broken starter bolt. What is the saying? "If it aint broke..." oh well I suppose.

Sorry to hear the frustration... So what is the plan now? Get it bronzed and use it as a paperweight... Can you get your old motor back? Looking for another reman? http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/1942812179.html

One lesson learned: We will NEVER buy another motor from craigslist. No, no, never, never. Its that darn first cl motor that cause all this hastle. Sometimes its just not worth the money you think you are saving. If we knew then what we know now we would just have a damn crate motor put in it, bucked up the extra few K and had a great boating season.

Kristen, I learned this hard lesson a few years ago. Bought a 'cheap' transom assembly on Ebay for $1000, took a 100% bath. My mechanic said it could have taken the boat down. Didn't do it again. Bought new for $2500. There is a lesson there for boat stuff. Do it right the first time. I was out of the water way longer than I wanted to. The good thing, I was able to sell some of the goodies off it to save a small amount of $. Ebay reimbursed me $200 for a ****ty vendor. I am truely sorry for the season you both have been having. I hope it doesn't spoil you for life. I know it feels really bad now. Give it time to soak and think about seasons past. In the grand scheme of boating, you might have saved money on gas/guest moorage, etc... lol.
Thought of you guys today. Chin up

Kristin--It's crazy that a broken starter bolt has caused you so much misery and $$. But, your misfortune has been a learning experience for many of us who have followed your reports. After what you've gone through, I will not purchase a rebuild from an individual that presents a bargain too good to be true. Are you going to purchase a rebuilt crate engine? Hopefully your insurance will help out with the expenses. :argh2

Eric and Kristin,
So sorry to hear the saga continues. You both have been through a great deal but seem to have retained your sense of humor, well for the most part, about the whole thing. I respect that.
I hope that this episode will be over for you soon and you can move on. Some day, you will look back and laugh about it and tell stories, which no doubt will entertain your audiience.
Hang in there

Thanks guys. No, it hasent runied boating, just this boat. And your totally correct, years from now we will look back on this and laugh...its just painful at the moment and really, who needs more stress in life? I, for one, am just hopeful we can get out from under this beast for as little more as possible, cut the losses and move onward and upward with life. Hopefully the insurance company will pay, but if nothing else they have footed the bill for the engine haul out and inspection so at least we now know what is wrong...even if nothing more happens that helps. It has to be easier to sell a broken boat if you know whats wrong and its not a guessing game.
I consider this whole thing what Dave Ramsey calls "paying your stupid tax". We paid, we learned and we will not make these mistakes again. We will still be boaters and will own boats in the future but in my mind we are done with this boat. Im not sure my better half agrees, but well figure it out together.
At the end of the day, its just stuff and money. Both are replaceable. As most of you know I lost my Dad last year and that whole process really changed my perspective on things...whats really important and what is not so important. If we gave the boat away and came out of it healthy, happy and together I am good with that. Because really, thats all that matters...all the rest is fluff. Expensive fluff, but fluff all the same.
