We are thinking about hitting the SJ's tomorrow for one final hurrah before I put the boat away for the season. I know it calls for rain all weekend, but that is not a show stopper for boating.
Are all of you guys done boating for the year?

Not at all but not as excited to go out in the drizzel gray as I was last spring, its still warm at least.
Thinking about taking in the boat show this weekend, not sure which day yet. Following weekend I will be itching to get out on the water since it will be a 2 week lay over by then.

We will, to the closer ports -Shilshoe, Bainbridge, Ludlow, Elliot etc. pretty much until the temp starts to really cool off. Some of the nicest boating days we have been out in is Oct. Bob even has had nice days out in Nov. with the snow falling!

I think moving to a full hard top enclosure would keep us boating longer in the season. The canvas cover can be a pain in the rain. It is fully waterproof, but it fogs easily. I found a new 07 (I think it was a demo) Discovery 289 for 58k that I would not mind taking a look at. But, the wife wants to move to a Meridian class boat for the slider in the back and flybridge. I don't think we would use the Meridian as much due to the cost of fuel and moorage.
Doug, isn't your freezer already full of crab? I only caught 3 this whole season!

Nope--we're heading to the islands with my brother for a week starting next Friday. We've had such nice sunny weather, I'm looking forward to some drizzle and fog. Also, there are still crab out there that need to be slayed.

I though crabbing was closed but...it Looks like crabbing is still open for the SJ's until the 30th.

Also just down in Area 9. We used to get a winter season here at Everett, but I guess all good things must come to an end. :(
You'd like the 289. The alaska bulkhead makes it a pleasure to be out when everyone else is hunkered down for the winter. :)

Do all of the 289's have the Alaska Bulkhead? The boat has a MAG 350. Is that enough power for this boat?

Sadly, we are pretty much done for the year, I doubt we will get out again. The weather over here can be nice in September, but it can blow hard and rain as well. The weekends are just too short, and we really don't have much energy left after a full week of herding kids around at school. Looking to winterize the boat soon. I will hold off for a few weeks though just in case........

I'm with Greg. I HAVE to go one more time just to pump out the head so I can add a macerator next spring. We'll get some nice days in Sept and Oct for a while anyway! Then I'll begin the winterization process and see if the neighbors will allow me to shade their house behind the tarp that covers the 300 DA!

There are some that were sold without it. (It was a dealer installed option) It definitely makes the boat in our opinion. I'm a fan of the big blocks in boats this size myself, but I've heard they do OK with the 350. They stopped offering the 7.4L in 2001 or so. The nice thing about the 2859/289 is there are no differences in the hull or layout from 1994-2009, so you're only dealing with cosmetic changes that can be adjusted for the difference in prices you'll find.

Not even close, going out every open day of crabbing until it ends, then its fishing time, and sight seeing time. :)

Finally should be getting the arch mounted in the next week or so (its finally built) So our boating season will just be getting under way.Since we have a 2859 we will have protection against the elements when needed and hopefully get in on whatever fishing season will be open this fall. And I finally get to learn new chart plotter / radar etc etc.

Been launching out of blaine for crabbing, running to birch bay from there.

Just not every weekend right now. There is still good boating left. Also you will find me the month of December cruising the Columbia & Willamette Rivers in Portland with Christmas Ships.

Two more papers to turn in today and I'll be done for the semester. Looking forward to getting some more boating in. Just too busy this summer with school to get much spare time it seems. Tougher than average classload. :(

I did my second undergraduate degree online. It was a bear. Luckily, I can mix-mode this one as it's a full hybrid. I take some classes at the Everett facility, some online, and the harder ones in Bellevue. Even the full brick and mortor courses heavily use the net for collaboration and communications. Pretty cool world to be going to school in.

I agree, I have four courses I'll be starting shortly... all online... "edumaktion" never stops...
We plan to hit the San Juans sometime either starting this Friday or next Monday...

I actually liked the online aspect. I didn't have to travel to attend class, did the whole thing from home, a real time saver.

We just came back from the San Juans. We left last Thursday and it rained everyday. The rain usually cleared for awhile during the day with Saturday afternoon being the nicest. The nice thing about the crappy weather is that it kept a lot of people away. The only people out were the retired folks with the big boats. We made an evening run from Sucia back to Coronet after we heard of pending thunder showers in the forecast. I think boating season is over for us due to the weather getting crappy early this year.

Still, sounds like you had a good time. Peaceful to be in a near empty marina once in a while... Makes for good family time together... Rain or shine, its nice to be on the water.

I've done a bachelors on campus (University of Hawaii), my second online through the University of Phoenix, and this MBA is through City University is offered on campus, online or hybrid. I really like the flexibility that CityU offers best of them all. I can take a class online, another at the same time in class, or my favorite method of; in class with online collaboration through their system. Really a nice setup. My cohort will be finishing in the next 2-3 semesters, and the only requirement is to stay somewhere close in progress with each other. I'm doing a double masters (MBA and an MSPM) simlutaneously, so it's tough keeping up sometimes, and I don't get to skip summers. :(

Yeah, going to school in the summer is no fun. When I did my masters through Grand Canyon University in Education Technology I was able to double up the class load and actually finished in one year. I had to burn one summer doing school work, my wife said I was a bear to live with that summer. I admit I was pretty grumpy. But I wanted to get it done and move on. It was a great feeling when I completed the program. Funny thing, teachers don't always make the best students. I know I don't.
Will your double masters degree open up advancement opportunities for you, or are you one of those folks that just love to go to school?

I got my MS at CWU. Took two years of driving back and forth from Wenatchee to Ellensburg. Working full time at the clinic and doing radiotelemtry flights twice monthly for gathering radiomarked bighorn sheep points. It was alot of work, but I'm sure glad I did it. I enjoy learning new stuff and would like to take a welding class, basic boat repair and maintenance, and fiberglass repair and fabrication, basic meterology, and oceanography classes.

I like learning new things too and the classes you mentioned are ones I would like to take as well. But taking a class here and there on subjects that are of high interest is different than dragging yourself through a high pressure program. Still I am very glad I did too.
