(EVERETT, WA) -- A man and wife and their son headed out for dinner Wednesday night took a wrong turn, with potentially dangerous consequences.
Their car ended up in the waters of Puget Sound in Everett. And so did the car following behind theirs.
Everett police said the couple was en route to dinner at Anthony's Restaurant and their son was following in another vehicle. The couple apparently made a wrong turn that lead them onto a boat ramp and then right into the water and the son behind them, driving his car, followed theirs up onto the boat ramp and his vehicle also slid into the water.
There were no injuries. Both vehicles were later pulled from the water.

I wonder if they went down the launch ramp and they pulled the cars out the retrieve ramp? ;)
Not me !
I still cannot understand how they did it. It is pretty well lit. But it did occur at High Tide so the incline is not that much. It must have been raining really hard as the ramps are off to the right when travelling down that road. They are lucky to have survived.

I was watching TV news when this was "breaking news" and the talking heads said the couple was trapped but junior was able to break out their windows to get them out. I'm sure they were all scared...
It wasn't us either although my night vision is so lousy, it could have been.

For old people that is nothing, my parents took three hours to find our new place that is on a major road. Finally I found them in Woodinville at the Dairy Queen after telling them to stay there. So when I heard about this, Debi and I both laughed and said yup sounds normal for old folks!
Ted....that's a good one !
I re-inacted the incident today. Speed limit clearly posted at 20mph. 1/8th mile ride to the water off of Marine Drive. Then make make a right or veer to the right. Huge lights right on ramp. 6 foot signs on every dock with 8 inch letters (BOAT LAUNCH). Decline ramp at 25 degrees for about 30 feet at High Tide before touching the water. There is something more to the story I would guess. Foggy / Rain/ Speed and a bit of Teds story above. They are really lucky......
We sold my moms car when she left if by mistake at the grocery store and walked the mile home.

The last time mom drove, she turned left in front of a car and it broadsided her. The intersection had one of the stoplights that had red, yellow, green and left green arrows. As mom was approaching the intersection to turn left, the signal was a green arrow, then just before she entered the intersection it turned to green. She thought she had the right of way so she turned in front of the oncoming car. She was pssied because the guy hit her. No one was injured seriously, but her car was totaled so it was an easy decision to not purchase another car.
I could see how someone like mom could drive down a ramp into the water. If it was raining, foggy, and the driver had cataracts---splash.

My mom got her car stuck in their 3 car garage trying to back it out and my dad keeps his car in the single bay giving her the double bay to herself.
Went to visit my parents for t-day this year. The admiral wanted to go the beach so borrowed my mom’s car. First battery dead, got it jump started, admiral goes to the beach comes back and tells me she can't close the sun roof. I fiddle with it a bit but no go. Take it to the dealer -They state it's just frozen up from lack of use and they just cleaned and lubed it and it works fine now. ($400.00 bucks at a Jag dealer no less).
I asked her when was the last time she opened the sun roof? " I don't think I ever have". When was the last time you drove the car? (since the battery was dead) " Oh it's been over a year" -I think it's time to sell me the car mom:)<O:p

From what I understand the son was following the parents in his car and when he saw them drive into the water he jumped out of his car but failed to get the car into Park before exiting. His car basically rolled into the water. His primary concern was his parents.

How old were the parents and their son?
Late 70's...not sure of the son. I believe him when he said that when he saw only the top of the SUV he did not think to put his car into park.......

Not sure of anyone's ages here but if you remember Jessica Savitch, the newsperson, she and her boyfriend and dog drowned in their car simply by taking a wrong turn behind a restaurant and landing in about 4 feet of water in a canal. If I recall properly, it was evening and raining hard, and the car landed on its roof, muddy bottom, and that was it. Horrible way to go.
