As most of you know we have been looking for a larger boat to call home. Most of the boats that offer the room and comfort that we like are higher off the water requiring us to climb down to get to a dock or to the tender when on hook.
I have been trying to find a source for those folding gangways like you use to see on the old Chris-Crafts. Does anyone know of a source for these or even better where we could pick up a used one from a salvage yard or old boat yard. I actually like the older ones and could rebuild it if all the hardware were in good condition.
It is one thing to be at our own dock and have stairs built but quit another when at a guest port or on the hook. Add into the mix a 60 pound Golden Retriever and it is an impossible situation.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Have you thought of joining the Chris Craft site and ask there? Place a want ad on Craigs List?

Try Second Wave in Fremont?

They'd be easy to build from aluminum. You could add teak treads if you wanted, but I would think adapting the design would be easier than trying to get one to fit from an old Chris.

Do a search on "boat boarding ladder". Quite a few options out there but they all look to be in the 1/2 BoatBuck range. We have been talking about the same thing for our boat. A good friend has a unit that I am going to ask him about as well. His is removable and has wheels at the bottom so it rolls as the boat and dock move. Pretty cool actually. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks all I will check out each of these sources. Never thought this would be so difficult to find given the number of old Chris's that have surcum to time. I looked on line at new ones and most were designed for big yachts and of course have the price tag to go along with them. There is a Chris down the dock and the stairs on the gangway are fixed. The upper platform swings down flat and a support drops down and against a plate in the side of the hull. The stairs then lower pivoting on the upper platform and a lower platform is supported by lines from the upper deck used for raising and lowering. Probably not a great explanation but the concept when you look at it seems simple.
Not sure what it is like to get on and off onto a tender from the platform but at least the puppy can't handle it.
