So, the new to me boat has a 50 Nissan (1998 low hours) with an auto oil injector built into the engine. I am considering having it decommissioned (so to speak) and relying on mixing my own oil/gas in the tank.

My thinking is I won't know if it stops working until the motor blows up or is otherwise ruined and with the mix done by me and in the gas I get to remove a point of attack by mr. murphy.

Should I be more trusting of Nissan quality? Or, should I let my paranoia have its way?

I believe there's an alarm that will sound if the oiler quits working that will sound before you ruin the engine. Unfortunately the alarm is probably the same for overheat or low oil level so you'll need to figure out why the alarm is sounding.
