This forum is great I appreciate the responses to my questions about clearing customs in the US and Canada. I am wondering what to expect for fuel prices during my trip. I want to fill up at the cheapest places if possible. We are going from La Conner to Sidney to Ganges to Poets Cove to Friday Harbor. I suspect that Sidney will be less expensive than either Ganges or Poets Cove, but how do Canadian prices say at Poets Cove compare to Friday Harbor? Does Canada still use the imperial gallon or is it the same as the U.S.? We burn gasoline.

I'd fuel up at either Orcas or West Sound before going into Canada. A full tank should be enough to get you back to Friday Harbor to fill again.

Expect to pay around $1CDN/liter at most places. Ganges will be cheaper than Poets. Not sure if Port of Sidney has fuel, but there's plenty of other marinas close by that do.

Last weekend, Friday Harbor was at $2.97/gal. Deer Harbor is typically the same as Roche.

Canada hasn't used the imperial gallon since about 1972. I think you will be very lucky to find fuel at $1.00/L in the islands. I pay that here on the mainland. last summer when I was paying 90¢ in Vancouver, it was 1.12 in Ganges and 1.25 at Poets Cove. Tsehum Harbour and Maple Bay were the same as Vancouver, so may be worth a phone call.

Sydney does not have a fuel dock, Van Isles just over does and I think Canoe cove does as well, I always found Maple bay to be better priced. But who knows now, seems the cost are sky rocketing as of lately.

Last time I was up there (couple of weeks ago) Roche was cheaper than
Friday by 20 cents I believe.

1.00 CDN per litre divided by 1.21 exchange rate = 82.6¢ US per litre.

82.6¢ US per litre X 3.785 litres per US Gallon = $3.13 US per US Gallon.

Ouch.

I have not re-fueld at Ganges recently but I know Poets Cove is very expensive. Avoid re-fueling there at all cost and if you run out of fuel there, haul out the paddles and row to Ganges ;)

well, its less than an ouch when you consider the cost of NOT going and having your boat just sit there...

me? I don't fill up with high test anymore... so it is not as bad a hit using regular...

Like 1northernstar said about fuel rates if your looking for a better rate try West sound- they will usually beat the most popular docks by 20 cents.
Deer Harbor seems to always be the highest in my dealings at the island fuel docks, and I mean High, not just a little but usually 30 cents higher

In my experience, Blakely Island consistently has the lowest prices in the San Juans. Usually they beat West Sound.

Hey, another place to stop if I take the high road home then, thanks for the tip on Blakely- I forgot they had fuel.

Every time I fll up the lawn mower, weed wacker, chainsaw, leaf blower and car it comes with a house and a yard(s) attached?

That does it I am taking the fuel tank out attached only to the Boat!

I had forgot about Deer Harbor. I called them and they were only $2.99. I think I will fillup there on the way to Sidney. That will be enough to get me back to Friday Harbor on the return trip. Another thing I thought about is that WA state is not going to refund me gas tax on Canadian bought fuel. Thanks for all the help. I never thought I would be thinking that $2.99 would be a good price!

Hey, I have diesel- want to update here late in week I will look for it. heading to Gulf islands.
Thanks
