Well, I am only eight weeks late splashing II Lucky this season. The weather has been garbage and business good so we did not get launched until last Friday. We did all of our normal routine maintanence but added a new prop and a stabilizer fin. I had talked to the Mfg of the fin last season but did nothing at that time. I ordered it this spring and installed it in about 15 minutes. It has absolutely made me fall in love with the boat all over. The Columbia and Willamette are running high and strong and usually the bow wander will wear me out in just a couple of hours.
No longer. It has solved the problem. I spent four nights anchored in downtown Portland for the Blues fest and on Sunday picked up the Admiral for the cruise back to the marina. We cruised at 1200 rpms for 15 miles and the bow wander is for the most part gone. We have found over the past few years that we do enjoy a slower pace. My boat really is not designed for that but this fin will allow us to cruise slower. Anyone could steer the boat now. I am more the pleased. We're heading to the snake and I can hardly wait to point and cruise. The combo of new prop and rudder made a big difference. I can't wait to get back out there.

Some of us, the fin is not a good idea. I had one for one trip and it almost caused us to roll to the port so far that I was standing on the pax seat. Glad it is working for you. At higher speeds I would not recommend it...

Glad you are finally on the water!

I've had one on my last two boats and they work wonderfully for me. My 2859 is tail-heavy and any help is appreciated. Never experienced the problem that Doug is mentioning.

By boat too is "tail-heavy," a symptom of the very deep-v, I/O, and maybe a little under-powered? I wouldn't be without my SE330 hydrofoil. It made a HUGE difference in performance.

The fin I am using is the SuperFin. It is just a couple of plates that drop down towards the prop and direct the prop wash. It's not a hydrofoil. I did run at top end and didn't notice problems with steering or roll. I didn't crank it over though. To me it just seems to be more of a rudder than anything else. My tabs correct the heavy stern but the fin seems to stop the wander at low speeds. I'll have a lot more time to test this next week.
