Hello Fellow skippers. I bet time is running on you hour meter this summer.:)
That brings me to my question.
I changed out all my dash gauges. The new hour meter is all zeros. My old meter reads 1860. Can I add the 1860 on to the new meter, Our should I?
Or, Keep the old one in a drawer. Maybe power up the meter till it reaches 1860.
What is your thought?

You should not be able to change the time on the hour meter. I would keep the old one in a drawer like you mentioned... It would help when its time to sell... Also, by keeping the ignition switch on brings needless wear on your electrical system... if you wanted to still do it, I'd take it out of the boat and use a spare garage battery to run her up...

I wouldn't bother. The next owner is gonna know your boat has more than say 500 hours, and you can then present the old one. He will know you are being honest and that will be worth something when you're trying to sell. Honestly though, I wouldn't give one much credence unless you keep a log. On my boat for example, I have all the receipts since new. Each has the hour reading recorded so you can piece it all together if you wished.

I used my wifes label maker and put the original hours on my broken meter and stuck right on the face of the new meter.

Yeah. I think if I was buying a boat and saw 120 hours on a 20 year old boat, it would be refreshing to have the owner give me the broken one and explain he didn't wanna fake up the hours. Doesn't really prove anything, but it would be reassuring.
