Does anyone have experience with the Propex Heatsource forced air LPG heating systems? I have been trying to find a forced air heating system for our 28 foot Carver and this is about the only propane model I have seen. They are hard to find in the US, though there is a place in Seattle that sells them (http://www.suremarine.com). Has anyone worked with one of these? It seems like a nice heating system (much like the Espar/Wabasto) type heaters, but using LPG. Certainly, less safe, but our boat has propane on it. I would rather avoid adding a diesel fuel tank.

Just watch where you put the exhaust. My buddy almost burned down a dock at the Edmonds Marina with the exhaust fro his heater.

Considering you start dieing the day you're born ....propane is a calculated risk. Likely safer than driving I-5 Friday afternoon in Seattle. We've had a couple boats with "The Cat" , catalytic propane heaters. Still here. However be sure to check the cost of the heater compared to the small Toyoset diesel forced heaters. If the cost is close I would favor the diesel, your insurance company may like the diesel better also, resale better with diesel heat also. Remind me to show you the scars on my arms from a propane explosion...2nd and 3rd degree burns over 30% in the bat of an eye. How was your vacation ?? Gene

Hi Gene,
I have been thinking about the risk of using a forced air LPG system and it does make me a little uneasy. One thing I would like to look into is the insurance company's perspective on using this system.
Our first trip to the San Juans in the Carver whent off without a hitch. We had a great time, mostly at anchor. The recent upgrade to the two 8D's really allowed us to stay on the hook a lot longer than we could before. We found that if we moved our food to the cooler rather than the frige we could go a very long time on our batts.
How was your trip? My parents were grateful for your assistance when they had engine trouble.
Also, do you have any recommendations for mechanics in the Seattle area? I would like to get the engines tuned up and one of the carberators adjusted.
Thanks,
Chad

Our trip was good this year..mostly. No mechanical ills anyway. Seattle mechanics, can't help there. Stay away from Olympic ( sorry Ted ) and Sundance . Maybe check with Coastal Marine , they seem to be a good outfit to deal with. Gene
