Mike (SS) and I caught our limit of Pinks this past four days at Neah Bay. I caught and released one silver. We also caught three Ling Cod but had to throw one back. We also had a few Rock Fish and one Greenling. We caught the largest Pinks about 5-7 miles due west of Tattosh. All in all, we had a great time. Only complaints were the lack of Silvers and my and Mikes' snoring...
The weather was so so... lots of fog rolling in and once in a while a bit of wind to make you think twice about wearing light clothing...
Wave height was probably 4-6 feet at its worst so it was OK too... It was nasty Thursday night, lots of wind and rain and small craft warnings all night long. We decided to head back Friday morning and as soon as we got to Sekui, the weather was nice but also very foggy. (weather was coming from the west so I am sure it was about to change there too. By the time we past Sekui, the weather was gorgeous... I was half tempted to turn around... probably would have had the silvers been in... next time...
Mike (GPS Powell) got to Neah before us and had already fished a couple of days. We told war stories and enjoyed each others company. GPS drove all the way out from Colorado and took home one silver some pinks and some others I think. Anyway, if you get the opportunity to talk with GPS, he and his fishing partner Boone were good company and a funny guy and fits into our group just fine. He started his drive back to CO on Thursday PM and should make it safe and sound the next day or so.
We were surprised at the lack of fish overall but saw some nice Kings and large silvers caught about 40 miles due west of Tattosh. We also saw some good size chicks (Halibut) being brought in. Maybe next time I'll go out to Swiftsure and land a couple too.
Hey SS, thanks for the salmon recipe. I tried it tonight with outstanding results. Just happen to have a few cedar shakes around and coated the pinks with brown sugar, etc. Good stuff! Tomorrow will be Ling Cod night....
Oh yeah, the new trailer handled very well and it never swayed or tried to pull me to one side of the road or the other. Disk brakes are the only way to go and I love the bunks... wish I did this a lot sooner! SS liked the visibility of the led lights they now use and the oil bath hubs are great to see if all is well.
Saw a huge gray whale outside of Neah with her pup and another whale half way to Tattosh...
It was nice to see SS could keep up or at least catch up when I got into serious traffic.
Time to hit the bubble out of Kingston... soon!!! I love summer time and no work... :P
