I saw a History Channel segment last night about the Bataan POW march and imprisonment. It was absolutely inhumane. Survivors were interviewed and they told stories of incredible atrocities committed by the Japanese soldiers against American and Phillipine POWs. I totally understand how some of the men could never forgive the Japanese for their action.

I just finished reading a book, "The fleet the Gods forgot" about the SE Pacific fleet at the start of WWII. One of my Uncle's was stationed on one of the tin cans, USS Perrott. After the war he was never the same. The book is an excellent review of how brave our sailors were at the beginning of the war.

I did not see that particular episode but I have taped and use the Death March footage in my classes. You are right about the atrocities... Seems the Japs thought the Filipino's were less than human and were routinely run down by vehicles or tanks or sliced from the back by Japs on horseback for sword practice... Even entire families that tried to feed the prisoners or give them water were executed.

The Japs thought that if you gave up that made you less than worthy of living and they would make life as close to hell as possible. The Japs preferred to commit suicide instead.

Many of my Dad's friends still will not drive OR ride in an asian built auto even when they know they were built here in the US.

Makes underwear over ones head a frat prank at the worst doesn't it?
