Senator Hillary Clinton was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upper New York state.
She spoke for almost an hour on her future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living, should she one day become the first female President. She referred to her career as a New York Senator, how she had signed "YES" for every Indian issue that came to her desk for approval.
Although the Senator was vague on the details of her plan, she seemed most enthusiastic about her future ideas for helping her "red sisters and brothers".
At the conclusion of her speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a plaque inscribed with her new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud Senator then departed in her motorcade, waving to the crowds A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they had come to select the new name given to the Senator.
They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of sh%t it can no longer fly.

FYI: Kerry and Bush have similar indian names.....

Claim: Native Americans dubbed John Kerry "Running Eagle."

Status: False.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2004]

San Carlos, AZ

During a campaign tour of the Apache Nation Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said he had a plan to increase every Native American's income by $40,000 a year. Senator Kerry refused repeated requests for details of his plan, however. He also told the Apaches that during his Senate career, he has voted YES 9,637 times for every Indian issue ever introduced.

Before his departure, the Apache Tribe presented the Presidential candidate a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, Running Eagle.

After Kerry left, tribal officials explained that Running Eagle is a bird so full of **** it can't fly.

Origins: We've been seeing this piece on the Internet since mid-June 2004. In a nutshell it's a bit of humorous fiction — there was no tour of the Apache Nation, no promise of increasing every Native American's income by $40,000 a year, and no sly "Running Eagle" dig at the Democratic party's nominee for the presidency.

It is true, however, that Indians have begun to command the attention of some of those on the campaign trail. It is estimated there are 1.5 million Native Americans who are registered voters, and in 2004 those votes are being courted. Not only are Indian issues being addressed in the ramp-up towards the November 2004 election, but some of those seeking higher office have been going to the tribes to make themselves heard.

For instance, a number of (then) candidates for the 2004 Democratic Presidential nomination addressed the November 2003 National Congress of American Indians held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Some appeared in person, and some sent taped remarks. (Senator Kerry was one of the latter.) In August 2004, Senator Kerry attended the Inter-Tribal Indian Pow-Wow in Gallup, New Mexico. While there, he lamented the lack of health insurance for an estimated one-third of Native Americans and pledged to increase federal funding for the U.S. Indian Health System (IHS) and cover all children "immediately" in the health insurance plan he would make his first bill to Congress.

The Indians are courting the politicians right back, seeing in these carpetbaggers the possibility of having tribal concerns addressed. Rather than dubbing the Democratic presidential nominee a derogatory nickname (and by so doing risking the loss of his goodwill once the meaning behind the name became clear), at that August 2004 pow-wow tribal members brushed down Senator and Mrs. Kerry with an eagle fan, a traditional blessing.

In February 2005 we began seeing a version aimed at President Bush land in our inbox:
[Collected on the Internet, 2005]

President Bush was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation last weekend in Arizona. He spoke for almost an hour on his future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living. He referred to his career as Governor of Texas, how he had signed "YES" 1,237 times - for every Indian issue that came to his desk for approval.

Although the President was vague on the details of his plan, he seemed most enthusiastic about his future ideas for helping his "red brothers".

At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented the President with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud President then departed in his motorcade, waving to the crowds.

Yeah... but I think its still a good joke that applies to many of our previous Presidents... and most all of our elected officials these days. :)

Better watch it, she may be our next President. We know she will be runniing and may get the nomination. It will depend on who the Republicans choose to run against her. I hope they don't blow it.

A female nominee for President is still a long way down the pike. I couldn't anything more wrong happening to this country. :(

I can think of half a dozen candidates that could beat her in that race. I don't think the US is quite ready to make that leap.

I believe she is the first female that has at least a chance. She is strong and could manipulate people to vote for her. She did it in New York as an outsider. Don't underestimate her.

There are still a LOT of male voters out there who'd have no part of it.

You know there a more females in the US then Males. If you could some how get the majority of that votes-who know what might happen?
After all Jessy the Body Venura got enough votes - should have seen looks on my parents face!

04-11-2005, 06:24 PM
Come on Ken... you know how the Electoral works... Even if she could somehow win the popular vote (you see that happening anywhere in the south?) the powers that be wouldn't let that happen.

I like the whole "It takes a village thing" ... but the mistake they made in NY isn't likely to happen 49 more times.

I could see trying the 2nd seat (VP), and hopefully slingshotting from there... but frankly I can't see it this next time around.

I think Hillarity will be one of the strong Democratic candidates and I wouldn't bet a dime against her winning the nomination. I don't believe the gender is a major stumbling block for either party. If she gets the Demo nod, it would be because of her very liberal, assinine political ideology. If the Democratic party would look for a more moderate candidate, I don't think she'd have much chance. I don't forsee the Dems changing party direction to a more moderate viewpoint.

I think the real question will be the Republican presidential candidate in '08. I'm sure there are folks who the Reps are grooming for a possible run at the highest office. I look for a candidate that has a clean public record, high visibility, well known in congress and is moderately conservative. Too bad Colin Powell won't run. Any guesses?? Condy Rice?

Go Aweigh2452
04-11-2005, 11:55 PM
Condy won't consider running until she proves her self as Sec State. If she does real well then she has a shot. But until then she'll stay mum...

FWIW, Before FDR, most presidential contenders came from the SecState position...

I think there are too many contenders however... Jeb Bush, Pataki, Giuliani, Milt Romney, Bill Frist, Robert Ehrlich, John McCain, Colin Powell, Bill Owen, Tommy Franks, Newt Gingrich and the list goes on...

Deadocrats would probably push Biden, Clark, Hillary, Edwards, Feingold Kerry or Richardson (NM) and least not forget... Boxer... love to see her run...

I think it would come down to Giuliani w/Condy as VP against Kerry w/Hillary

04-12-2005, 06:29 AM
I like Giuliani, Powell or Franks. I've met the latter two and they're just impressive human beings. Tommy Franks in particular. He's a HUGE man and has a presence that is awe inspiring. He ate with us Chiefs on the Lincoln last time I was in the Gulf. Neat guy. He'd have my vote.

Mike- I agree with you on the Electoral College. Just pointing out that in an election you never have a sure thing. If she some how made it on the ballot I sure you will see a record # if male voter, and all the statistics show that the % of female votes is low.

Tommy Franks has my vote if he chooses to run!

I think the reason that Roel would vote for
a woman, is because in the Netherlands
they have had only Quees for so many years.

Currently - "Queen Beatrix" - House of Orange

Before Beartix was her mom, Queen Juliana,
and before Juliana was her grandmother,
Queen Wilhelmina, and before Wilhelmina was
her great-grandmother, Queen Emma .....

I can say that if anyone ever gets to Europe,
the Netherlands is "a must see" with question.

The country is beautiful, alot of history, and
most important, it has some of the friendliest
people we have met anywhere in Europe.

My wife and I have been going to visit friends
in the Netherlands at least twice a year for the
past 9 years.

I can assure you that as a fellow boater, it is
"a must" that you meet up with at least Roel
and Frans (DutchWavehopper) for a night out.

We plan to meet up again in the fall when the
Admiral and I are back in Europe.
Our last stop is always IJsselstein, Netherlands
before returning home to the U.S.

I wouldn't hesitate to vote for a lady president if she is the better of the two candidates. If she used tobacco, I'd rather she use alittle snoose rather than smoke a stogey. Alittle pinch between cheek and gum, no smoke, no ashes, no butts--just alittle spittle now and then. :joker:

3788sam
04-13-2005, 10:51 AM
Sorry off topic a bit -Randy haven't heard the word "snoose" since I went to college in MN. Did you ever live up that way?

Randygh
04-13-2005, 11:36 AM
Nope never been up that way, but I did go to vet school at WSU and many of my classmates were from states that participated in the WHICHE program--Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah. Most of them were from livestock ranches. Quite of few of guys always had a container of Cope or Skoal in a shirt pocket. If out of tobacco, most guys would bum a "chew", a few would ask for a "chew of snoose". Most profs didn't mind if the chewers would bring a pop can to class and spit in the can. I always preferred Bandits, but gave it up many years ago.

She has to take a certain misses Gregoire for running mate!

Just the thought of a Hilliary/Chris ticket is enough to cause severe or even mortal indigestion. Oh my gosh, I couldn't imagine sitting in a cabinet meeting with two women experiencing hot flashes. Talk about an explosive situation.
