Finally got my replacement depth sounder for my Wideview Humminbird. The last one got hammered by debris in the water (its the transom mount type). The actual unit is OK, just the attachment to the transom is bad. So... I thought I'd attempt to glue that one inside the hull near hull center and the new one back on the transom. Someone said earlier that they used a 3M product to glue it in place. I was thinking that fiberglass resin ought to work also. So, feedback is welcome at this point. I know I have to avoid bubbles but also figure the hull being fiberglass...

Anyway before permanent installation, my plan is to dam it up around the unit and place it in water inside the hull to see if it will work at that part of the hull. Your thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

Also, I have to mount my new black box. I have the rectangular type and was thinking of a dash mount verses a gunwale mount near the downrigger due to weather... it is "water resistant"... or mount it on the inside of the hull behind the drivers seat but still under the hard top. Either mount will include running the wire inside the hull to a hole near the downrigger where I can pull it out and place on the downrigger wire...

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome (I think)????

Instead of damming up areas... fill your bilge with fresh water (just a couple inches... put the new transducer in a gallon ziplock full of water. Then you can move it around and play with it to find the best location and angle.

Toss a couple of 1 liter bottles weighted down off the bow (or lower with a fishing line to be more PC) and then while you're sitting at the pier you can see those bottles and figure about how you wanted angled.

Best install I saw was a shoot through... mounted inside a short section (4" or so) of schedule 80 pipe fiberglassed to the inside of the bilge. Filled with water... you just mount the transducer inb there and put a cap on it. If it ever breaks... pull the cap and change the ducer. Really a slick setup and left lots of room for down the road repairs and upgrades.

Also make sure the t-ducer is pointed straight down or possibly a little forward, not to the side. The t-ducer already installed as a shoot through hull on friends 280 carver sits flat against the hull so it shoots to the side of the boat.

Seems to be allot of alternatives now days to get the puck to stay put. when i did one on a boat quite a few years ago I used West Systems epoxy, bought at West Marine. Worked great.

Just make sure that's the side YOU are fishing from :)
