Does anyone know where I can buy an aftermarket skip tower to put on a 20' Palmer Tiderunner?

I'd try these guys. Friends in NY have used them.

Seems like SS could make one...I have a nice bender for 1 3/4 od tubing. There was a boat in Port Orchard that made a radar arch from pvc...might not want to try that though, did look a tad chessy

I'd love to have that bender close by Gene :D

You could build a beauty out of 1 1/4" aluminum conduit. Bend it, weld it, polish it... would look real nice and still be light.

Tim, at least it will give you some ideas as to options... I'm sure ss can be a bit more affordable and just as professional looking...

Stainless is nice, but they've been using aluminum on fishing boats for a long time with great results. Spud has an aluminum walk around on his Trophy. They're nice and light as well. No since in adding a couple hundred pounds of steel up high on the center of gravity.

RMC aluminum tube is essentially just 6063 tubing with a thick wall of around 1/8" or so. Great stuff to build with and polishes out well or powder coats.

How do you guys know so much about boats...is all you do is sit around and read about boats????
Everytime I've ever asked a question to this group, I've always gotten great answers.....in fact, usually more than I ever wanted to know.

Thanks guys,

Tim (the dumb one)

One thing to watch with Aluminum is dissimilar metal corrosion around stainless steel fasteners.

My 40 year old Chris has SS screws in aluminum trim on all the windows, no problems yet. A dab of silicon sealer or nylon washers can help prevent the problem . Keeping a boat washed also helps.

Yep, usually that's all it takes. A friend in PR built a radar arch for his boat out of aluminum. He went overboard by using shouldered bushings made out of delrin at all the attach points. It's been now 15 years and no problems.

A lot less of a problem in areas that are kept dry, or at least dry off after washing. All of those damned Zamac fittings are a great example (Zinc + Aluminum + chrome). :D

My Carver has aluminum trim held in by stainless screws... no corrosion at all.
