Better hurry... they're heading for the rivers fast. :)
The fish are still stacked at Sekiu. We have been nailing em near
Pt Townsend on the incoming tide down deep. Biggest is only 13 so far but I think the winner will come from the salt this year. Gotta be over 15 or so to be in the money.
Fish On !

They're picking them up at the Wallace Hatchery already and the word is the winner will come from the river again this year.
Here's last years fish:
Caught right here in the Snohomish River 18.14 lbs :D

He's from right here in Lake Stevens btw and I know exactly where he caught that bad boy... 8)
The soft mushy river fish always win. That is why this derby kinda sucks. But it is co-sponsored by Three Rivers who sells river boats........
This years bad boy will come from the salt ! It has too...........
cause that's where I am fishing :D :D :D :D

Nothin' mushy about the Silvers in the Snohomish. They start packing on some heavy weight just before they hit the fresh and stay chrome bright for some time. I've caught fish with sea lice still attached into mid-October on both the Stilly and the Snoho.
I also think some of the guys get their fish a bit early for the derby as well. There are guys fishing like crazy up that way even now. :)

I went to the Puyallup Fair Sunday and as we were driving home past the river, some guy was walking inthe median to his car with two huge silvers hanging from his arms. Had to be about 2.5 ft long each... Then I saw in the river along the road 100+ fishermen... fly fishing like crazy!

There are some HUGE silvers in the rivers. I don't bother with fly fishing, but you can do really well drifting eggs on a float. I got half a dozen or so fish last year on the Snohomish, Skykomish and Wallace, and did even better with the humpies on the Stilly. Year before last we must've gotten 20 fish a piece on the Snoho. Got some MONSTER Chum... but they're nasty to eat :)
I had an old man on the river tell me that the difference is; On the Sound, you're hoping for that one chance to drive within 20 feet of a fish and THEN get him to bite... on the rivers ALL of the fish come to within 20 feet of you.
He's right. It's a steady stream of fish swirling and jumping as they head by. If nothing else you get to see tons of them :)
Got two limits by PNP today. Nothing over 10 pounds though. Gonna
be tough to beat a river fish......
BUT I AM GOING TO !

Well Spud I hopped in the ole skiff and went down the lake to see him! He looks and sounds great, thanks for the heads up that he was there. Ah yes the perks of me job! Ted
Ted, thanks for visiting George. Tough thing to go through.
Going to hit PNP today and then stay with the Salmon U team, Silver Horde (Kelly) and West Marine Seattle Mgr. (Paul) over at Tom Nelson's house on Hood Canal (named after Mike  ). With this group it will be hard to make it to Monday. :D
Hope to get a fish over 15 for the derby. You will note my fish will be from the salt as the skin will not be sluffin off and the meat will be intact and not have to be duct taped on. :D :D
We will be on 68. Good luck to all !

Good luck Spud. Hard to beat a freshwater fish though. They say those guys can gain a pound a day from the time they move in until they make their run... and then all of those are heading up the river. The oil docks at Mukilteo yield some big fish... but they'll be under some huge pressure this weekend.
Just nailed the silvers this weekend. One of the best fishing weekends ever. The two of us got 12 on Saturday and kept four. Weighed in two in the derby 12.2 and 9.7 something. Stopped fishing at 11:00 am.
I fished alone on Sunday and got 5 to the boat. All were all in the
6-8 range.
I think the winner was close to 16. One guy brought in his 15.5 fish and they gutted it...........he filled it with ice cubes !
REJECTED !

SPUD - Saw you coming in about 12:15 (we where just sitting on the fly bridge enjoying the sun) Sunday with a bunch of penits(sp) flying from your antenna- Sounds like you had a good weekend out there!
It was a blast. Fished past Bush Point. 300 ft of water. Green hootchie and green glow flasher down 85 to 95 ft. My buddy got a 14.5 only he was 135 on the downrigger.
The radio jokes were flying. Some guys said they started trolling ice cubes with hopes of a big one  The weigh in guy said it was about a pound of cubes ! Lot of guys trying to a name.....shouldn't be long. Takes a lot of guts to cheat.

I've heard of guys injecting them with salmon oil. I feed it to my dog as a suppliment and my neighbor saw the bottle and his first question was if I was entering the derby. :)

When I was fishing shark tourneys back in Long Island, we'd cut the fish open to verify... found lots of lead weights & lead line, bolts, metal, glass bottles of water, bricks, ice, etc. No license plates as seen in "Jaws". But expected one as a joke but never did see one... When the purse is $10,000 or more, these guys will do anything to win. Last tuna tourney, we disqualified a guy when we had photos of him pulling up to a commercial tuna boat and buying a huge tuna from him. He did not realize we had an "eye in the sky" helicopter. That purse was $25,000. + $10,000 in prize give aways. Mighty tempting to those that have no or little morals... That tuna would have won too.
Biggest insult was a guy who ran out of gas, got towed in by a friend of mine from 20 miles offshore plus another 10 to the docks and he won a $10,000 purse with the winning shark. The bum gave my buddy a bottle of vodka as a thank you. He figures it cost him $400 in gas and saved the bum about $1500 in towing charges...
Just can not figure people sometimes... Costs so much more to tow a boat and the bums don't even offer to at least offset the extra cost in fuel sometimes... that really is not nice!
Cheaters never win and winners never cheat. BAAAAD CARMA !
I think it was $2500 for 1st $1500 for second and so on down to 5th place. Then about the top 100 fish get nice prizes. My buddy got 7th and got a $450 electric downrigger. We got some rods and bino's but
gave em away to kids sweltering with dad in the hot sun all day. Made their day.....
