Sort of gathering information here. I would like to hear from you guys at
various places around the sound about what's being printed in your local
newspapers. Over here we have the PT Leader which is pretty uninvolved
as far as state and national politics go, then we have the Peninsula Daily
News out of Port Angeles.
Recently, the PDN has been running some downloads from the AP about
firearms stuff. It's all been run in the back pages until today. On the front
page today, they have an AP download with the headline ".50-caliber rifle
now available to civilians".

Are you guys seeing this sort of stuff recently in your papers??

I'd hate to think we're seeing a build up to an anti-gun push in the very near
future.

Thanks,
Pete

Ever since Charlton Heston died, its been down hill... Have not seen the front page press pushing that agenda however...

We're still pretty much in the 'wild west' here. Guns are a part of daily life. Kids get in line for firearms safety class for hunting license. Half the trucks I work on have a rifle in the back window or a hand gun under the seat. Gene

He's like 82... but I don't think he's dead. The IMDB still has him up there so he can't be. :D

I too don't think Heston has passed away. If I remember correctly, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

The national antihunting and antigun groups are alive and active. Here in central Washington alot of folks own guns and hunt. Personally, I don't see as many folks hunting when I'm out in the Columbia Basin. I think the number of WDFW hunting licenses for certain species is down in proportion to the population growth.

The local paper is the only local family owned daily paper in Washington. The paper definitely leans to the left, but a large percent of their subscribers are middle of the road or conservative. Fortunately, there are frequent Letters to the Editor that berate the paper for its liberal editorials and biased reporting.

We have definitely seen an increase in banger shootings. The Southside Locals, and Brick City Boys are putting bullets into each other's homes and cars. Sunday night, a banger put two 12 ga shots through the window of a local motel room. Evidently, the banger didn't want to welcome someone to town. A couple guys in the room were hit with lead shot, nothing serious.

That sounds more South Central L.A. than Wenatchee :?

I humbly stand corrected, Heston is still alive, he nor I just don't realize it...

one of his famous quotes:

"...Mr. Clinton, sir, America didn't trust you with our health-care system. America didn't trust you with gays in the military. America doesn't trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don't trust you with our guns.."

You have to like the guy at least for that comment! (even Gene)... ;} ;)

Gun control is out of hand already- I don't know how many gun related crimes involved person who bought their weapons legally- but I'm sure that it is a small percentage of the total number of crimes!

The NRA is the only organization that will fight legislation on your behalf. Cost next to nothing to join and Shooting USA will chip in $10 if you join through their site!

Off my soap box now!
I'm going down to CA now with my .50 rounds and see when they go off on their own and cause a crime!

The Penisula Daily News must have a very astitute pack of writers. ;) Evidently the paper thought it was worthwhile to inform everyone that .50 caliber rifles can be purchased by civilians, hence we need to have the federal government protect us. Wrong--When was the last time someone in this country was murdered by some crazy guy with a .50 cal rifle or handgun? Perhaps the folks at the paper don't realize that a .45 cal handgun bullet is only .05" smaller in diameter than a .50 cal.

I'm sure the PDN covered the Makah gray whale hunt several years ago. The person who placed the AP article in the paper showed her/his ignorance by not knowing that the Makah's used a .50 caliber rifle to finish off the whale.

It just shows the ignorance of them to me. I mean, if you're going to a shootout... would you rather have the single-shot, bolt action .50 cal that is 6 feet long and weighs 90 pounds... and cost $2000.00 and ammo that's $5 a round...

... or a Remington 870 Express pump 12 guage with rifled slugs for $250.00 at your local WalMart.

The latter would be a MUCH more effective weapon... and has been a mainstay of bird hunters for 50 years and is a far more versatile weapon. Kevlar won't stop the slugs... the rest of the body is vulnerable to the buckshot... and you can buy them all day long.

Controlling the weapons is not the answer. Lethal force when you catch a bad guy is. Catch a person with a weapon in the act of committing a crime or endangering the public... drop him.

I see we have a great deal of agreement here on 2nd amendment issues.
I am still interested whether or not there is a general publishing of the stuff
like the PDN recently published. If there is an effort on the part of the local
media to help the anti's sneak up on the ignorant public then I think it would
be in our best interest to expost that effort and do what is needed to put
the brakes on the anti's early. Things can happen in Olympia very fast and
with little notice.

"No mans' Property or Liberty is Safe when the Legislature is in Session"
Benjamin Franklin

And the general public is just ignorant enough to fall for this anti gun crap.
It happened in CA and with most of the voters living in the metro areas,
it can happen here.
