Refreshing the bottom paint on the boat. What's the general trend...one coat or two?

We did 2 coats 2 years ago with Micron Ultra. Had a diver do zinc check, said the bottom looks great! Will have to do at the end of the season though, paint up to the water line is looking pretty shabby :(

How can you see the paint Ken? When i went up there saturday the water was brown...too much rain! :D
We also put two coats of the micron extra on in january. Don't have much time with it on but it looks good. It is pretty obvious that nothing was put on the outdrive as it is green. Any ideas on how to fix this? It washed off last time just from running the boat.

2 coats..last time I painted I used Petit with 'slimecide" and it seemed to work pretty well. Gene

Like I told ya when we were down there with ya. Buy a can of spray on clear anti-foul and you're done.

SS...unfortunately they launched the boat when they had an opening and I didn't get anything on it. :( Anything i can do to it now that it is in the water? Scrub it weekly = excuse to be at boat but lots of work.

Just use your boat all the time :D (with some time off in June) If you start to see a lot of build up, scrubbing is about all you can do. Of coarse it will just start to look like a lot of the other boats you see down there if you do nothing!
Some legs look like they have a shrub hang off them!

If i want a shrubbery i would just head to the nursery! :) I don't want to look like every other boat down there.
As a side note...did you read the last flyer from POE about if you see a neighbors boat that hasn't moved or been visited in 6 months to let them know? I am sure they are going to be inundated with moorage requests once the new marina and shopping areas are built. I am glad we got in when we did, no wait. Friend was on waiting list for only 3 months to get covered moorage up there.

They moved a bunch off A dock this winter that I know haven't moved in months!
Back to your leg, you’re going to see a green slim on your leg all the time. Most comes off when you use it. As for scrubbing off, get a cheap boat brush and pole, raise the leg and stand on you swim step you can get most of the big stuff off. What you have to keep a look out for is the barnacles and mussels. They effect performance an create vibration!

yeah that clear anti foul is good stuff but you have to put it on when the leg is clean and dry. Next time you pull the boat, clean and dry it then spray it on. Also don't use too much of it... one coat is fine otherwise it'll flake off and look like sh#t.

I just finnished putting three coats of the West Marine CPP (Pettit) on the bottom and Interlux Trilux 33 on the leg, trim tabs and swimstep supports. The boat gets splashed this Friday (Yea!!!!).
sunnydude2, since your boat is already wet you might want to check out a product called Foul Away (www.cleanseasco.com). They advertise that it can be applied underwater and will last about 3 months. I have not used it but have read a couple of articles that indicate it seems to work as advertised. Using this might get you through to the next haul-out.

Keeping out of sunlight is the trick.
I know a trick my dad used to do, and something I still see in our marina is to hang a tarp over the transom to block sunlight. It helped greatly. What guys will do is hang some weights on one end of a tarp, and tie/ bungy cord the tarp to the transom. My dad always put it under the swimstep, so you didn't even see it. To run the boat, just pull the tarp over and attach it to a cleat at the dock. Worked great and kept the trim tabs and outdrive looking great.
Will backing into your slip help?

Steve...I already do back into my slip. Maybe that is my problem as the stern is east? Will plan on frequent scrubs this summer and haul it out next spring to get it painted.
