Thread: Area Code 855...

  1. #1

    Default Area Code 855...

I don't answer any calls from unknown callers or phone numbers that start with 800, 866, 877 and 888... unless I am expecting a call from these numbers such as tech support, etc... Not a big deal because these are normally FREE calls to me...

HOWEVER, anyone calling you from 855...

Area code 855 is an area code reserved for toll-free calls in which the calling party is not charged. Instead, the telephone carrier charges the cost of the call to the called party.
So beware if anyone calls you from an 855 number... unless you are expecting a call from tech support or other help from businesses...

Personally, I think this stinks that you get charged when some bozo selling you stuff actually charges you for the interruption...

Honestly, I laughed out loud when I stumbled across this posting after a Google search.

"the telephone carrier charges the cost of the call to the called party." <- sounds like any other free number, e.g. 800, 888 etc. to me.

The quote refers to when someone calls a number starting 855. You don't get charged when an 855 number calls you.

I believe they're just the next batch of toll-free numbers aren't they?

Hence you get charged when YOU answer the phone from a biz that calls YOU from a 855 area code...

I dunno Doug. I think 855 numbers are just the next batch of toll-free number (like 800, 866, etc)

You call them at 855, they get charged. You are reading too much into the words, Doug.

Yeah... if it were a problem, you wouldn't want to answer any toll free calls. Or heck, why couldn't they simply block the caller ID and you'd probably answer?
